Job Descriptions
President
Section 6.02 of the Bylaws state: “The President shall, when present, preside at all meetings of the members of the Corporation and of the Board of Directors. The President shall also be charged with the general management and supervision of the affairs and operation of the Corporation. He shall be an ex officio member of all committees appointed by the board. He shall perform such other duties as are incident to the office of president of the Corporation or as may be required from time to time by the board. Together with the Secretary or other officer appointed by the Board for that purpose he shall sign all by laws.”
Responsible for preparing agendas and gathering docket materials for board and annual meetings, planning implementing and advertising for annual meetings, serves on the nominations committee, prepares reports to Synodical and Districts conventions and updates for Synodical BOD meetings, following up with committees and directors to ensure assignments are completed, ensures the ongoing flow of information to directors through email, etc.
The President is elected by the board members from among their ranks.
Vice President
Section 6.03 of the Bylaws state: ”During the absence or inability of the President, his duties and powers may be exercised by the Vice President. He shall retain these powers until the board shall appoint a successor. The Vice President shall carry out such duties as the board may assign to him.”
The Vice President would also serve in one of the assistant director capacities below.
The Vice President is elected by the board members from among their ranks.
Secretary
Section 6.04 of the Bylaws state: “ The Secretary shall be an ex officio clerk of the Board of Directors. He shall attend all meetings of the Board of Directors and record all facts and minutes of all proceedings in the books kept for that purpose. He shall give, or cause to be given all notices required to be given to participants and to members. He shall be the custodian of the seal of the Corporation and of all books, papers, records, correspondence, contracts and other documents belonging to the Corporation which he shall deliver up only when authorized by a resolution of the Board of Directors to do so and to such person or persons as may be named in the resolution, and he shall perform such other duties as may from time to time be determined by the Board of Directors.”
The Secretary would execute the mail in election after receiving the ballot from the nominations committee. The Secretary is elected by the board members from among their ranks.
Treasurer
Section 6.05 of the Bylaws state: “The Treasurer, shall keep or cause to be kept, full and accurate accounts of all receipts and disbursements of the Corporation in proper books of account and shall deposit all monies or other valuable effects in the name and to the credit of the Corporation in such bank or banks as may from time to time be designated by the Board of Directors. He shall disburse the funds of the Corporation under the direction of the Board of Directors, taking proper vouchers thereof, and shall render to the Board of Directors at their regular meetings, or whenever required of him an account of all his transactions as Treasurer, and the financial position of the Corporation. He shall also perform such other duties as may from time to time be determined by the Board of Directors."
The Treasurer is elected by the board members from among their ranks.
Director of Development
Responsible for the overall fundraising function. 2.01.c of our bylaws states one of our objectives:
(c) Raise financial support and be involved in fund raising on behalf of various mission activities and projects in Canada and abroad, and cooperate with other agencies in funding such projects and activities;
Plans and implements the various fundraising vehicles. This could include direct mail appeals, appeals in the Mission Advocate, direct large donor contact, memorials, bequests, etc. This position would be responsible for setting in place a system to increase the number of people on the societies mailing list (Mission Advocate Program), maintaining an electronic donor data base, securing members of the Society, preparing reports and updates for board meetings; etc, etc.
This person would recruit a committee to work with him/her in fulfilling the position’s mandate.
This person would be a member of the Societies board of directors and would be appointed by the board.
Assistant Director of Development
This position recognizes that with a 6 year lifespan for board members, someone must be in training for all positions. The assistant would take responsibility for a particular mandate within the development job description (i.e. Mission Advocate Program, & or, etc.) This person would be a member of the Societies board of directors and would be appointed by the board.
Director of Mission Education
Responsible for the overall mission education function. 2.01.a &b of our bylaws states these 2 objectives:
- Develop greater prayer support for and interest in missions;
- Be involved in mission and stewardship education as it connects donors and ministry;
Plans and implements the various mission education vehicles. This would include being editor and publisher of the Mission Advocate; maintaining the societies website; coordination of booths and display boards at conventions and other functions, coordinating mission education speaking engagements in congregations, at conventions, or other venues; preparing reports and updates for board meetings; etc.
This person would recruit a committee to work with him/her in fulfilling the position’s mandate.
This person would be a member of the Societies board of directors and would be appointed by the board.
Assistant Director of Mission Education
This position recognizes that with a 6 year lifespan for board members, someone must be in training for all positions. The assistant would take responsibility for a particular mandate within the mission education job description (i.e. Web site, & or, etc.) This person would be a member of the Societies board of directors and would be appointed by the board.
Director of Ministries and Projects
Responsible for the overall outreach ministry function. This person should have experience in missions and mission development. They should be aware of and remain up to date on the mission program of the Synod (national and district) and have the ability to interact with mission entities and personalities globally.
Researches and prepares a potential list of projects for the board. Makes recommendations on emerging potential projects and emerging situations with existing approved projects. Authorizes payments for project as funds are available, and within a budget. Prepares project updates for use by Development or Mission Education. Plans implements and supervises projects that the society undertakes directly. Prepares reports and updates for board meetings etc.
This person could recruit a committee to work with him/her in fulfilling the position’s mandate.

Assistant Director of Ministries and Projects

The assistant would take responsibility for a particular mandate within the ministry and projects job description (i.e. project supervision, & or, etc.) This person would be a member of the Societies board of directors and would be appointed by the board.
