Theological Education - Southeast Asia
March 30, 2009
Theological education for pastors and deaconesses in Thailand and Cambodia continued in early March. Rev. Dr. Norman Threinen, professor emeritus from Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Edmonton taught classes on pastoral care and church polity to students in Bangkok, Thailand and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The classes include students from Lutheran congregations as well as members from other denominations. “The word spreads in this small Christian community,” explained Dr. Leonard Harms, executive director of Luther Institute Southeast Asia (LISA) which organizes the classes. “Theological education is much sought-after by all Christians and we are happy to teach our Lutheran theology to anyone who is interested.”
Providing funding to cover the travel expenses for professors and pastors from Canada, who volunteer their time to equip church workers in Southeast Asia with a solid grounding in the Scriptures, is one of the fourteen mission projects adopted by Concordia Lutheran Mission Society for 2009.
