Surin Ministry Update – April to September 2008

Ministry Summary:

On behalf of the Surin Evangelical Project, we would like to express our thanksl to The Concordia Lutheran Mission Society committee for the approval of our project. We are also very pleased to report that from the first part of the support we received of 138,253.50 Thai Baht ($4,500) since April 16, 2008, we were able to start another preaching ministry in the Phum Sa Tueng Village, 5 kilometers away from Ban Choke Nua our original ministry. And we gave a new name to our project: "Surin Lutheran Preaching Point" with a strong belief to grow as the first Lutheran Congregation in Surin. Now we have about 20 kids enrolled in each village center - all together about 40 kids. We also have 3 adults who accepted Jesus Christ and are preparing for baptism.

The Children learn about an angle and enjoyed coloring after the lesson.

Korn, our helper, use simple method as she teaches bible story to the children.

After the fellowship the older kids help cooking for us. To have enough to feed all kids sometime we use green papaya and fried dry noodle because they are easy to get and cheap.

Today they had better meals because the neighbor cow died so we have some dried beef with fried rice.

We teach the older children to read the bible out loud to the younger kids.

Special Scholarship Project:

The support also directly involve in the education support to 3 girls from Surin whose almost fall into the prostitution circle. Now we send the 3 girls to Study in Chiangmai and stay in a Christian Boarding House there with a Christian love and care environment. Here are some of their photos from Chiangmai.

Their first arrived in Chiangmai's Christian Boarding House.

Mattaya (Ray), 16, is in grade10 now. She was almost send to be a service girl in the restaurant in Pattaya where her mother is working. Praise God that we have enough support to take her away from that circle and give her a better future. She said after she finish grade 12 she wants to study in the bible college so she can help us to bring good news to the other disadvantage kids in her hometown Surin.

Wanida (Jah), 15, is in grade 9. She was almost has to quit school because her mom whose devoiced with her dad since she was 3 months cannot afford to send her to school. Thank God for the support we received is enough to safe her and keep her in school. She is a very active girl and very helpful to the boarding house guardian as she always help them teach homework for the smaller kids in the house after her school. She also wants to study in the bible college after her high school.

Now the school is on vacation after the first semester has ended. The second semester will start again on Oct 20. Please keep them in your prayer and please extend their best regard to all brethren who support them.

Amen
